Everyone, any preference weekday or weekends for the first class?
Each class session would focus on one or two particular drinks, with a lecture period of the origin of the cocktail and its social, political and pop history followed by a lesson in preparing the drink. Students would then make their own cocktail and imbibe!
Proposed cocktails:
Manhattan, Old Fashioned, Mint Julep, Mai Tai, Mojito, Margarita, Sazerac, Egg Nog, Irish Coffee, Aviation, Absinthe Cocktail, Bloody Mary, French 75, Gin Fizz, Gimlet, Hot Buttered Rum, Hot Toddy, Hurricane, Long Island Ice Tea, Martini, Negroni, Side Car, Dark & Stormy, Tom Collins and perhaps a special class devoted to punch. Perhaps the best way to learn about these and other cocktails is in chronological order, and sipped while viewing scenes from films in which characters imbibe the current lesson's drink.
Yeah. You don't have to come to all 4 classes. Also, Class fee is $5 per class.
Class
A beginners class to introduce vvvv, a toolkit for real time video synthesis. The class would run through the most distinctive features of the software, ranging from the program interface, to its way of dealing with object oriented programming.
Students have the chance to get familiar with “patching”, which is the particular way VVVV interface structures the instructions to be processed by the computer. After examining the software essentials, the students are shown how to manage and control different media streams in VVVV.
About
I have been asking around but it's so difficult to find someone who can teach this class... Anyone???
Learn how to cook using all local ingredients. Class could start at a farmer's market, include basics on local and seasonal grocery shopping and cooking, and end somewhere with access to a few gas or electric stoves. 10% discussion on local food/demo, 45% cooking, 45% eating.
Just a reminder. This class will be meeting tomorrow at 10 A.M. We will meet at the Hollywood Farmers Market in front of the Hennessey + Ingalls Bookstore. See you then!!! If anyone coming late, etc, call me at 213-210-1758.
This is a simple and straight forward class on readings on architecture.
The class was originally proposed in THE PUBLIC SCHOOL NYC and scheduled bi-weekly starting on February 28th.
Please refer to this link.

This could go various ways. We could read the same text and participate discussion over skype. Or we can run completely different readings and discussions. Perhaps, we should have some kind of exchange (between LA and NYC) once in a while.
Proposed readings so far are...
"Learning from Las Vegas" by Robert Venturi, Denise Scott Brown and Steven Izenour
"The Death & Life of Great American Cities" by Jane Jacobs
"Towards an Architecture" by Le Corbusier and Spaces Speak
"ARE YOU LISTENING?" by Barry Blesser & Linda-Ruth Salter
THE PUBLIC SCHOOL NYC is starting this class on 28th. Is anyone interested in starting ours soon? Any suggestion on reading materials?
This group will rediscover our city’s rich food system while learning how to rebuild and maintain it for future generations. Schedule TBD by the group.
