In this class we would learn about the coffee roasting process, bean selection, roast profiles, and how to apply all this in a home roasting environment. I can provide a variety of home coffee roasters which we will use in class; from the dirt cheap to the moderately expensive. Participants can either bring in their own green beans or if there is an interest as a group we can order a selection of beans for the class. If possible I would like to organize this as a two day program with the second class scheduled 24 or so hours after the first so that we can allow our roasts to properly rest and then try brewing them using a variety of processes (including espresso!).

This is a reminder that Home Coffee Roasting begins tomorrow at 11am. Please remember to bring a couple jars to hold your beans until Sunday. Everyone is welcome to attend, and of course, coffee will be served.

made a note: Punk Hollywood

The Punk Hollywood site visit will likely happen sometime down the line, but folks in town are ahead of the resurrection game this Friday Jul 09 at El Cid. This band got their start playing in '77 at The Masque in Hollywood and the DJ, pioneer of the Atomic Cafe in Little Tokyo, will be spinning 45's from the Atomic jukebox.

The sushi we eat today is evolved from the "Edo-mae style" typical of the mid-19th century.  So what was sushi like before then?

This is a course offering a culinary time-travel adventure.  As you explore a non-linear history of sushi, you will experience a range of typical regional and historic forms of this Japanese culinary art.  Sharing collections of historic paintings and illustrations that tell of the development of sushi from its earliest origins, I will bring this rich cultural and culinary phenomenon to life:  You will learn about the effects on sushi's development of geography, oceanography, climate, politics, war, immigration, urban planning, human disaster and cultural influence.    You will see and taste unique sushi forms dating from before the Edo-mae style, such as Hako (Boxed Sushi), Mushi (Steamed Sushi), Bo Sushi (Pressed Stick Sushi) and others.

This is a reminder that Travel with Sushi meets TODAY at 3pm at The Public School. The class is full, so please only attend if you've completed your payment online. If you didn't make it into the class, keep an eye on the class page, there will be more opportunities for this class in the future!

This class focuses on: drawing, collaboration, interpretation, catharsis, relational aesthetics, subversion, perversion, mobility, negotivity, comics, head shots, etc. etc.

All show sign up for the one night class will be invited to draw and collaborate as stated (or not) in the following manifesto:

Nude models will be on site.

MANIFESTO:

The purpose of a Fucked Up Drawing Party is to get fucked up (i.e. intoxicated) and draw things that are fucked up (i.e. disturbing). What constitutes a Fucked Up Drawing is different for everyone. Some people discover the Fucked Up in aberrant sexuality or perverse violence, for others it may be politically charged. Styles range from abstract mark making to soft-core realism- being eccentrically overt or delicately subtle.

youlooklikemagic, first come first serve! the limit is loose and since its a party, come and go as and when you like.

commented on openFrameworks

openFrameworks is an open-source tool and C++ framework for creative programming. Especially created for artists and designers, openFrameworks is the ideal starting point for those who want to take their first steps in C++ programming. At the same time, it is an immensely powerful tool for developing more advanced projects, providing a simple and intuitive structure for experimentation with many other open-source libraries.

The library is designed to work as a general purpose glue, and wraps together several commonly-used open source libraries within a tidy interface: openGL for graphics, openCV for computer vision, rtAudio for audio analysis and synthesis, freeType for fonts, freeImage for image input and output, Quicktime for video playing and sequence grabbing, and many other free libaries for networking, serial communications, vector graphics output, etcetera.

The code is written to be both cross platform and cross compiler.

Sorry, but registration is closed for the class and space is limited (and already pretty crowded). There are quite a few of you interested folks that were unable to sign up, but we will definitely let you know if this class is offered again.
