A series of workshops serving as an introduction to using real-time graphical programming environments for manipulating audio, video, and data. MaxMSP (http://www.cycling74.com/products/mmjoverview) and Pd (pure data (http://puredata.info/)) share a core structure and usability, and it is hoped that by participating in these workshops, one would be able to continue their explorations in either environment. Focus will be on achieving basic familiarity, realizing individual basic projects, and making use of the vast support network that exists for further investigation and self-education. The first meeting will cover getting the software up and running--familiarizing oneself with using an object library and building simple patches to perform routine functions... subsequent meetings will be largely devoted to walking through solutions for individual projects... video / audio / data processing, interfacing with machines or other software, building standalone applications, etc.
