conceptual choreography
proposed by ladyspoke
this course experiments with creating movement from concepts. we work around imagery, detailing our dreaming and mapping music with our bodies. it is a class designed for dancers and non-dancers alike who have an interest in creating art from movement. each meeting we will explore a concept such as fear or existentialism by developing movement, playing with gravity and challenging motion in a way that translates our ideas.

in this course we will begin with a yoga/pilates based warm up, moving from the floor to our feet, from slow to fast, and from small to big. we will focus on core strength and balance while attempting to release tension and unnecessary built up stress. after warm up we will begin creating movement that comes from a purely physical perspective. we will attempt to carry no emotion and create no shape. it is an exercise of finding the human in movement, of breaking free of what it means to be a dancer. we will practice set phrases to different music and manipulate our speed. we will then begin to explore a more emotional side of movement. using historical images we will create movement for isolated parts of our body, while attempting to move in unison with other parts of our body. by the end of class we will create a phrase that embodies what we have learned. we will piece it together like a book, and potentially perform it for an auidence of other telic students.

can't come for multiple reasons, mostly whims of fate (teaching started up again last week, and now finding myself in the midst of busyness)
also - Sept is packed full of dance-related stuff, so it's hard to pick and choose:
http://somafest.org & a bunch of open-to-anyone-and-taught-by-a-friend-of-mine DANCEbank classes (http://www.myspace.com/dancemegwolfe)
if it were in aug or oct, i might better be able to attend, monetarily, and schedulewise...
