Python + Arduino + Nokia N810
proposed by David Elliott

This workshop will introduce developing for the Nokia N810 with Python. Here are the things that will happen:

  1. Go over the details of a game project under development that depends on the Nokia N810 as one of it's central technologies.
  2. Talk about some of the unique characteristics of the platform and our overall impressions after working with it.
  3. Short introduction to connecting Arduino to the Nokia N810 via USB
  4. Short introduction to Python and PyGame
  5. Go through a short tutorial where we show some of the steps necessary to setting up a development tool chain and create a simple graphic application that will run on the N810

No prior knowledge of any of the technologies covered will be required. Participants will not be required to bring their own Arduinos or Nokia N810s.

Hello,

We've added a new workshop on Saturday and moved around two of the workshop leaders. Also, I'm sad to report that we had to cancel the OpenGL ES workshop due to a health crisis, The Public School will probably offer this in the future.

First the new workshop:

Writing the Mobile Web
This class will focus on learning techniques for creating websites optimized for use on iPhone, Android, and WebOS. Particular attention will be paid to using advanced CSS techniques, CSS3, HTML5, client-side storage, and accessing GPS and hardware features through JavaScript.

If you want to sign up for this, visit The Public School:
http://la.thepublicschool.org/class/1631

If you're already signed up for two and you want to switch one of your workshops, write to Chandler

Please be at UCLA at least fifteen minutes before the workshop begins.

Dennis,
Your google checkout order has been refunded. We have you on the list for this class as per the sign-up form. The type-o has been fixed. Thanks!

I see. You hadn't mentioned that you are a UCLA student. Sign up as a DMA UCLA student on the form and we will refund your money. The form has a type-o that seems to restrict sign-up to DMA students only.

Sorry for the trouble.

I ended up paying $25 even though I am a UCLA student. the "buy now" did not direct me to anywhere that allowed me to just sign up w/o paying.

You need to click the google "Buy Now" link, not the sign-up form link.

Why is it that when I sign up, I am forced to select between being a ucla dma student or a member of public school? how will I get in?

The workshops are free for UCLA students and alum, and $25 for the general public.

is this only open to UCLA DMA students? if I'm not a DMA student do I have to pay?

@jbobrow Yes, this class will still be interesting to someone with very little python familiarity, we will also be talking about many other aspects of developing for Nokia N810.

Is it reasonable to partake in this class with very little python familiarity?
(I accidentally posted this in the notes section)
