For those on the interest list who have taken this class and feel ready to go a step further with microprocessor circuits, a new 8-bit Lab workshop scheduled for August 23rd may be of interest: http://la.thepublicschool.org/class/1342

We'd also like to (pre-)announce a new membership program at The Public School that will allow students to take an unlimited number of classes with a $200 annual membership. For those of you who have taken a previous 8-bit Lab class (or other classes at TPS), we'd like to offer the opportunity to apply a credit from those classes towards the yearly fee. If you become a member, any future 8-bit lab classes are going to cost you $10 to cover the materials cost only. If you are interested in this membership offer, please email sean at telic.info

Thanks for the links, Phil.

Another OSC link to check out is the following makezine blog page:
http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2009/03/osc_library_for_arduino.html

There is a video of OSC in action (Arduino communicates with iphone) and
a link to the code library that makes it possible.

Here's a link to code for Arduino to OSC.

I haven't tried it myself, but it says it offers this functionality:

Digital and analog input pin value changes are sent from Arduino to a PC
Digital and PWM output pins can be controlled at runtime with messages from a PC
Digital pins can be toggled between input and output at runtime with messages from a PC
Reporting of digital and analog input messages can be controlled at runtime with messages from a PC

Here's the book I recommended in class today for DIY audio hardware projects:

Handmade Electronic Music: The Art of Hardware Hacking

It doesn't cover arduino (at least the first edition doesn't), but it has oscillator, amplifier, and distortion circuits, etc. with various integrated circuits.

It would require a lot of parts if you were to do all of the projects (which unfortunately I can't say I've done).

REMINDER: this class will meet TODAY at 972B Chung King Road. If you haven't been to the classroom before, it may be a little tricky to find.. the entrance is in a small alley between Chung King Road and Hill St. The map on this page is very helpful: http://la.thepublicschool.org/faq

As usual, we encourage everyone to bring a laptop to class if they can, and if you still have a chance please download and install the Arduino environment (http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software).

The Public School will provide all the electronics needed for the course, though these are not for students to keep (we re-use the equipment for our various 8-bit lab workshops, building up the electronics library little by little) Of course, feel free to bring your own Arduino and other equipment to class! As usual, we encourage everyone to bring a laptop if they can.

Does the course fee include materials (like an arduino)? Or should students bring their arduinos if they have them?
